In this Paper, Charles Pragnell presents evidence and arguments regarding the abuse of children which can occur during medical procedures and treatments and the high incidence of such abuse worldwide, causing the deaths and serious lifelong injuries to children..
A link is made with the rapidly increasing numbers of allegations of Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy which blames a parent (usually the mother) for the child’s illness thereby exonerating medical personnel from any responsibility and accountability.
In the conclusions to the Paper, attention is drawn to the high proportion of MSBP allegations which follow threats by parents to report the physician for malpractice or misconduct, or to sue the Health provider. In such cases, retaliation has therefore to be an important and unavoidable consideration.
