Medical disputes force children with ME/CFS into state care. |
This article by Countess Margaret Mar was first published in the Daily Telegraph and is regarding the actions of social workers and doctors towards families with a child suffering from ME/CFS. Many of such families are being subjected to child protection investigations and procedures in which they are powerless and over which they have little, if any, influence and children with ME/CFS are being placed in state care solely to enforce the opinions of certain physicians.
This is still happening despite the findings of a Court that, “…parents have a right to give or withhold consent to elective forms of medical treatment in respect of (the child)…”
It demonstrates the lengths to which some physicians will go to enforce their personal opinions over professional colleagues and that children are still the innocent victims in medical disputes, as they were in Cleveland in 1987 and on many other occasions since, in the absence of a national body to validate and verify new medical diagnoses and treatments.
